Identity Theft-When Bad Things Happen to Your Good Name
How can someone steal your identity? Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information such as your name, Social Security number, credit card number or other identifying information, without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes.
Lt. Steve Franks, 30-year veteran with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department having served in Patrol, SWAT, Narcotics, and Intelligence, is presently in charge of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Financial Crimes Section, which includes Forgery and Fraud Details. He is a 1995 graduate of the FBI National Academy and a member of the United States Secret Service Cyber Crimes Task Force, the Nevada State Governor’s Cyber Crimes Task Force, and the National Infrastructure Protection Task Force.
Lt. Franks is a crime prevention speaker at numerous Southern Nevada civic and financial/gaming meetings. He was a guest speaker at the 1999 Montreal, Canada, International Association of Financial Crime Investigators Conference. He is also an instructor for POST, LVMPD, and NRA firearms.
