PARTY WITH KIKI
Should You Take A Bet On Your Career?
“When you have a BA in music and an MBA in International business, it seems only natural to put together a show that takes audiences around the world,” says Kiki Kalor. “Actually, it didn’t happen that way. My entertainment career started on a bet.”
Kiki’s friends at work bet her that she would not go out on the streets and sing. –Was it a good idea to take that bet? Edith Piaf, Cirque Soleil andBlue Man started as street acts.“I ended up quitting my ‘safe’ corporate job, and singing on the streets for 9 months.” “It was exciting, and I learned to handle myself under every circumstance,” says Kiki laughing.
On the street, Kiki met people from all over the world. She says they would come up and ask, “can you sing this song in my language?” I couldn’t do it at first. There is a secret to singing in different languages that I had to discover.”
But once she learned how to sing in other languages, she started combining it with her dance background. She had been a professional ballerina who had toured the world, and a flamenco artist. Everyday she could present her act differently. “From a business standpoint, the street is a fantastic test market. You can make adjustments, find what works and what doesn’t. It’s real time and real circumstances, and people let you know what they think,” she confides.
In 6 months, Kiki was singing and dancing in 7 languages. The street act had metamorphosed into “The Kiki Kalor Express:” a show which takes audiences around the world in an hour. “I knew I was onto something when the people walking by would stop to take a look, and end up watching for an hour.”
Soon, corporations were knocking on her door: Adelphia Network, TV 5 Network, Canadian Consulate, Pacific Design Center of Los Angeles, Trader Joe’s, Von Dutch and many more hired Kiki.
“Today’s corporations have employees that are diverse and multicultural. “Whether corporations are having holiday parties, awards dinners or conferences, they call me because they want to show their employees as well as their guests that they respect their culture and identity. My show is a perfect fit because it’s International and lots of fun,” exclaims Kiki.
With Vegas as her new home, Kiki is excited about its International qualities. Like “The Kiki Kalor Express,” the famous Strip is where tourists can travel around the world and back again, from erupting volcanoes to the Eiffel Tower to the Sphinx of Egypt, all within walking distance. In the last 2 months, Kiki has performed at the Infocomm Conference, the AMME conference, on the Dennis Bono Show, Larry Manetti’s Celebrity Lunch, The Arts Factory, First Friday Arts Festival and the 8th Annual Henderson Arts Festival. Kiki is available for corporate events, private parties and weddings. Don’t wait until the last minute for your companies Holiday party Entertainment!
